BALLOT IMAGES produced by the Humboldt County Election Transparency project can be obtained from the Elections Department on DVD.  

These images are also available on a website hosted by the Election Administration Research Center at UC Berkeley


AN OPENSOURCE SOFTWARE PROGRAM FOR COUNTING BALLOTS was created by project volunteer Mitch Trachtenberg.  This tool is able to produce an independant tally to compare with the official results produced by proprietary software.  This tool is available at:

This section is an archive of historical events that occurred during the development and implementation of the ETP.  I will be adding older content as time permits.

April 8, 2008 - meeting in sacramento with secretary of state debra bowen


Several members of the Humboldt County Election Transparency Project including Carolyn Crnich, Kevin Collins, Mitch Trachtenberg, and myself traveled to Sacramento to meet with Secretary of State Debra Bowen and her Chief of Staff Evan Goldberg.

During our nearly 90 minute meeting we discussed a number of topics relating to the Elections Code and whether scanning ballots is permitted under the Elections Code.   Although Secretary of State Bowen could not officially endorse the project, she did not express any reason for not conducting the ETP audit.
